About the Tar Heel Cup Matches

The Tar Heel Cup Matches are an annual friendly event between the top eight PGA Professionals and the top eight amateur golfers in North Carolina.

The Tar Heel Cup format consists of one day of Four-Ball matches and one day of Singles matches, with one point awarded to the winner of each match. It requires 6 1/2 points to win the Tar Heel Cup.

Top 7 eligible North Carolina players via Carolinas Men's Rankings at the end of the calendar year, plus 1 Captain’s Pick

*must have played in either a CGA or SCGA Championship proper within the last 12 months to be eligible

About the Captain's Putter Team Matches

The Captain’s Putter Matches are an annual competition featuring top amateurs from the Virginia State Golf Association and the West Virginia Golf Association playing against the top amateurs from the Carolinas Golf Association (North and South Carolina). Each team features 14 open players, eight senior players, and two super senior team members. The Captain's Putter Matches are invitation only, and players are selected by the CGA Men's/Senior Men's Rankings.

 

Winner: Each match is worth 1 point. A total of 48 points are available. 24.5 points are needed to win the Captain's Putter. 

Record:  Carolinas leads 54-24-2 all-time in the series.
